Kolkata won the toss
Kolkata Knight Riders captain Nitish Rana won the toss and decided to bowl first. The Kolkata team was playing for the first time under the coaching of Chandrakant Pandit. The batting of Punjab Kings had started against Kolkata Knight Riders. Prabhsimran Singh opened the innings along with captain Shikhar Dhawan. Prabhsimran is looking in great touch and was scoring runs at a brisk pace. After the end of two overs, Punjab’s score was 23 runs.
Punjab’s first wicket fell
The first wicket of Punjab Kings fell on the score of 23 runs. Prabhsimran Singh was dismissed after scoring 23 runs in 12 balls. He hit two fours and two sixes in his innings. Tim Southee caught him at the hands of wicketkeeper Rahmanullah Gurbaz. Southee’s ball was outside the leg stump and in an attempt to score a four, he hit the ball in the hands of the wicketkeeper. Now Bhanuka Rajapaksa was at the crease with Shikhar Dhawan.
Punjab scored 36 runs in four overs
Punjab Kings had scored 36 runs losing one wicket in four overs. After the dismissal of Prabhsimran Singh, Shikhar Dhawan took over the responsibility of scoring runs. On the other hand, Bhanuka Rajapaksa was keeping his eyes on it for the time being. After five overs, Punjab’s score was 50 runs for one wicket.
Punjab’s score crossed 50 runs
At the loss of one wicket, the Punjab team’s score had crossed 50 runs. Shikhar Dhawan and Bhanuka Rajapaksa were at the crease. Both were scoring fast and taking their team to a good score.
Punjab Kings scored 56 runs in powerplay
Batting first, Punjab Kings scored 56 runs for one wicket in the powerplay. After the dismissal of Prabhsimran Singh, skipper Shikhar Dhawan and Bhanuka Rajapaksa scored quick runs and laid the foundation for a big score for Punjab Kings.
Half-century partnership between Dhawan and Rajapaksa
There was a half-century partnership between Shikhar Dhawan and Bhanuka Rajapaksa. Both the batsmen were looking in excellent touch. Rajapaksa had also reached close to his half-century. Whereas, Dhawan was playing cautiously at one end. With this, the score of Punjab Kings had reached close to 100 runs. With this, the difficulties for the Kolkata team increased. After nine overs, the score of Punjab Kings was 91 for one wicket.
Punjab Kings score beyond 100 runs
At the loss of one wicket, the Punjab team’s score had crossed 100 runs. Shikhar Dhawan and Bhanuka Rajapaksa had a great partnership. Both the batsmen took their team to a very good score. Bhanuka was nearing her half-century.

Bhanuka Rajapakse had completed his half-century in 30 balls. He played a brilliant innings for Punjab and got his team in a better position. He had hit two sixes and five fours so far.
Punjab’s second wicket fell
The second wicket of the Punjab team fell on the score of 109 runs. Bhanuka Rajapaksa was out after scoring 50 runs in 32 balls. He hit five fours and two sixes in his innings. Umesh Yadav got him caught by Rinku Singh. Now Jitesh Sharma was at the crease with captain Shikhar Dhawan. Bhanuka had done his job before getting out and the Punjab team could have easily scored more than 200 runs. Punjab’s score was 129 for two after 13 overs.
Punjab’s third wicket fell
The third wicket of the Punjab team fell on the score of 135 runs. Jitesh Sharma was dismissed after scoring 21 runs in 11 balls. Tim Southee got him caught by Umesh Yadav. Now Sikandar Raza was at the crease with captain Shikhar Dhawan. Punjab’s score was 142 for three after 14 overs.
Punjab’s fourth wicket fell
The fourth wicket of the Punjab team fell on the score of 143 runs. Captain Shikhar Dhawan was out after scoring 40 runs in 29 balls. He hit four sixes in his innings. Now Sikandar Raza and Sam Karan were at the crease. Punjab’s score was 143 for four after 15 overs.

Punjab Kings’ score had crossed 150 runs at the loss of four wickets. Sikandar Raza and Sam Karan were at the crease. Punjab’s score was 153 for four after 16 overs.
Punjab’s fifth wicket fell
The fifth wicket of the Punjab team fell on the score of 168 runs. Sikandar Raza was out after scoring 16 runs in 13 balls. Sunil Narine caught him by the hands of captain Nitish Rana. Now Sam Karan and Shah Rukh Khan were at the crease.
Punjab scored 191 runs batting first
Batting first, Punjab Kings scored 191 runs losing five wickets in 20 overs. Bhanuka Rajapakse scored the maximum 50 runs for Punjab. Captain Shikhar Dhawan 40, Sam Karan 26, Prabhsimran Singh 23 and Jitesh Sharma were dismissed after scoring 21 runs. Tim Southee took two wickets for Kolkata. Umesh Yadav, Sunil Narine and Varun Chakraborty got one wicket each.
